Dear Families,
We have had a very busy week and students are working hard getting ready for our M-Step test the end of the month! In addition to our hard work, we had fun reading with our Kindergarten buddies and helping hide eggs and open them for their egg hunt. We also had our Family Book Club night on Thursday and had a lot of fun celebrating reading Word of Mouse.
As a reminder, please make sure to mark the M-Step dates and try to avoid appointments or absences on those days if possible. (They are listed on our upcoming events below).
Have a Happy Easter,
Mrs. Davis
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this past week:
*Our class has learned one of Mrs. Davis' favorite sayings, can you complete it? "You don't have to be best friends with everyone, but you do have to be _________________________________________."
*What do you call a shape with 5 sides?
*What are all of the names you can think of for a square? (there are 5 names)
*Tell me 3 things about the childhood of the person you are researching for your Wax Museum.
*What was the common theme in Because of Winn-Dixie and Louisiana's Way Home? How did Kate DiCamillo's life influence her writing those stories?
Please write a note in your child's agenda noting that you asked them these questions and they can earn an extra Michigan Dollar!
Curriculum Updates
Writing: We are continuing reading our biographies. Students will read these chapters multiple times. We are learning that we don't remember all of the facts and details in just one reading. So, to become an expert, we may have to hear the information (or read it) multiple times. We have started taking notes on our important person.
Math: We worked hard on vocabulary for math and learning about shapes, lines, angles, etc. We also have continued practicing area and perimeter. This upcoming week we will be reviewing the unit and then taking our Unit test on Thursday.
Social Studies: We finished our opinion letter to the Governor. These were sent home this week. We have started our next unit studying government and the reasons we need to have a government.
Reading Workshop: This week we will begin our new Informational Book Club. Students will be assigned groups and the groups together will research a specific animal. This is a very fun unit and students always enjoy studying animals together.
Word Study: We will be working on reviewing some grammar as well as some power words in preparation for our testing.
*Please encourage your child to read one book at school and at home. It is important that they take the same book back and forth from school to home each day. We want to work on building comprehension by reading a book all the way through before starting another one!
