We had an action packed week with conferences, the food drive excitement and a fun Disney Day on Friday! The food drive will wrap up tomorrow with the winners being announced at the end of the day; canned good/dry goods will still be accepted tomorrow! It is a very close call between us and a couple of 5th grade classes. The winning class wins an extra field trip to go bowling with Mr. Beimers.
I appreciate all of the support at conferences this week! It was great to get a chance to sit down and discuss your child's progress.
Thank you,
Mrs. Haagsma
Enjoy the slideshow of pictures from our time with our kinder buddies, our science experiments and our Disney Day!
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
What is your thesis statement (big idea) for your Opinion piece? What are your reasons of support?
How do you multiply by multiplies of 10? (how would you solve 3x40?)
Tell me about the ramp experiment in science? What was your prediction?
What did you work on with your kinder buddy this week?
What activity did you do involving a map on Friday? Where did you go?
Curriculum Updates
Writing- We are currently drafting our Personal Essay/Opinion pieces. We have picked our topics, planned our thesis statements and are now working on our body paragraphs with 3 reasons of support.
Math- We are wrapping up our second unit covering Multiplication and Division, along with one and two step story problems this coming week. Our test will be on Tuesday!
Science- Our current unit is called Force and Motion. We are having so much fun learning about force, gravity, and friction! So many exciting things were learned last week from watching a fun Magic School Bus video about friction, a car/ramp experiment and playing reverse charades by acting out things that involve pushes and pulls.
Social Studies-We continue to work on learning the roles of both U.S. and state government. We will also dive into the goods and services provided by the government.
Spelling-Coming soon!
Reading- Learning about how characters grow and change is our goal for this unit in Reading!
