Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week

- What is something you are looking forward to at the end of the school year?
- What subject have you improved the most in this year?
- Can you share one success from school or home?
Curriculum Updates
Writing: We are wrapping up our research on our famous people and will begin drafting this week! The students will continue to work on their wax museum projects (and speeches) at school, but you may want to begin thinking about a costume for our June 6 Wax Museum!
Grammar topics were reviewed and covered during the first half of the school year in writing and are now reviewed daily during our morning work. There are a few no excuse grammar and mechanics items that I am looking for in all of the students' writing at this point in 3rd grade. All of these areas have taught and reviewed during the school year. These areas will be graded upon the report card.
- Capitals at the beginning of sentences
- Capitals on Proper Nouns
- Correct end marks
- Indenting for paragraphs
- Correct use of quotation marks
Social Studies: The students presented their Economics Marketplace projects this week and they turned out wonderfully! The students ended up selling to Mrs. Gitler's class and vice versa. They had a great time showing off their products and learning how businesses work!
Math: We will continue on with our new Math Unit this week. Our final unit is 2 step story problems!
Reading Workshop:
Our focus during Reading Workshop will move into reading texts in order to learn about the moral or lesson that story can teach us. Our new "Shared Reading" book is called How to Steal a Dog. This book examines the tough choices a family must make when they are facing homelessness. There are some great discussions going on with this book! Please ask your child to share a summary of it with you!
MobyMax and Study Island: These are two great learning sites that Park students have access to (Thank you Parents' Club!) We spend time each week extending and practicing our skills in the subjects of Math and Reading on these sites. Computer skills are an essential part of our learning!
Epic! is another site that your child may want to explore. This is a wonderful site full of over 20,000 books. Your child can get on for free Monday-Friday during school hours. This is perfect for a Snow Day or during our breaks.
