I was so impressed with my students' fraction math test results from last week! I was blown away by the excitement, hard work and dedication to mastery every student put forth this unit and it paid off in their scores! Awesome!
We wrapped up Earth Week watching a movie called Wall-e. This movie really grabbed the students' attention to what Earth could be like if we do not make small changes now!
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
- What are you proud about from your Fraction Test?
- Can you name the three reasons (from your Opinion Essay) why you think people should take care of the Earth?
- Can you share some important accomplishments you learned about your Wax Museum person? Did you finish your book?
- What are you excited about for this week?
Curriculum Updates
Writing- We are currently drafting our Opinion Essays! Our thesis statement is "Taking care of the Earth is important because..." I love how many great supporting details have come up during our Science unit on Recycling!
Math- We wrapped up our unit on fractions last week. We were tested over fractional parts, model fractions and how to locate fractions on a number line. The students did wonderful on their assessments! We will begin our final math unit this week-2 step story problems!
Science- We are well into a unit in Recycling and studied the role recycling plays in keeping our Earth clean. We did an experiment with how rivers and streams become polluted for fish and other wildlife, which really opened our eyes to the importance of protecting our natural resources.
Reading- Our goal is to have our Who Was? books finished by the first part of this week so we can dive into note taking and drafting. We will take notes on the Early Life, Later Life, Accomplishments and Time Line of our historical figures. I will model these steps using the book Who Was Walt Disney?
