One of my favorite ways to teach conventions is with the use of School House Rock videos. The kids love them and can often be found singing them during the school day. Here is our new favorite covering Pronouns!
Our focus in Grammar this year involves learning different conventions, vocabulary, dictionary skills, and parts of a sentence. I work hard to make Grammar fun in 3rd grade by incorporating books, videos, and interactive notebooks. The students take notes in their language notebooks and we put them to use many times throughout the school year, especially during Writing Workshop! One of my favorite ways to teach conventions is with the use of School House Rock videos. The kids love them and can often be found singing them during the school day. Here is our new favorite covering Pronouns! As we move into more curriculum, we are becoming more familiar with our everyday routines! 3rd grade is a big jump from 2nd with higher expectations with behavior and curriculum. I will work hard each day to encourage your child to do their own personal best in all that they do. Continue to check your child's Friday Progress Reports for updates on their personal goals and my goals for them. Please talk with them about these goals and discuss how they can reach them! Thank you for your support!
The first week few by! The students are getting used to the routines and procedures of 3rd grade, but still having fun in the process. Some highlights from the week included personalizing our Math, Reading, and Writing Interactive Notebooks and working together on an activity called "The Cup Challenge". Students were able to use just a rubber band and string to manipulate 6 cups to create a tower. The shouts of joy and groans of frustration made this community building task a success!
We are off to a great start! The students were excited and ready to learn about 3rd grade! Here are some of the fun things we kicked off the year with;
"Can you save Fred?" Our first group activity involved using 4 paper clips to get Fred (the gummi worm) into his life preserver (a gummi ring). The students had to work together to complete this task without touching Fred. Lots of laughs came from this fun activity! |
