Curriculum Updates
Writing- We are working hard on our final drafts in writing to get ready for our Writing Celebration next week! Our non-fiction books are looking wonderful! The students can not wait to share them!
Math- We jumped into our new unit in math this week. This unit covers place value, reading and writing numbers, 3 digit addition and subtraction and rounding.
Science- We learned all about how sound is created this week! We explored how different sounds make us feel, communicate messages, or engage us as well!
Social Studies-This past week, we learned about some of the important natural resources and industries that have developed in our state. Businesses like maple syrup, car, blueberry and apple companies have taken advantage of the natural resources in our state to create jobs. We also learned about the term "entrepreneur" and watched a clip from the show "Shark Tank" to learn how even kids can become entrepreneurs!
Spelling- Students receive a new spelling list every other week and are given a practice test on Friday. If students received 100% on their practice test, they do not need to practice their words the second week (as I take their practice test grade as a final grade). If your child did not get 100%, they need to continue to practice their words for another week. The words that they got wrong are the only ones they need to write in their agendas each night.
Reading- Our focus during Reading Workshop continues to be studying non-fiction text features and understanding how to pull out the main idea of a text.
Reminders
Store Donations-If you are willing to send in donations for our store, we are grateful as 3rd grade teachers! We welcome donations of candy, cans of pop, and small trinkets (they can be gently used). Thank you!
