I hope that you had a relaxing and fun Christmas break! We are back into the swing of school and working on new goals for our classroom. Working hard within a group and staying on task are two of our current behavior goals in third grade. These can be tricky, especially since I have such a fun and social class! I am excited to see what goals we can achieve during the rest of the school year!
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
What is an animal adaptation?
Can you tell me some adaptations your animal has?
What is elapsed time? How do you solve these types of problems?
What did you do with your kinder buddy this week?
Who is your favorite character from "Because of Winn Dixie"?
Curriculum Updates
Writing- The students spent some time researching about their animal's adaptations, communication, and fun facts last week. We will begin drafting tomorrow.
Math- We continued on with learning about time this past week and how to solve elapsed time. These types of problems are tricky, but the students did a wonderful job, I was very impressed!
Science- We began a new unit this past week called Light and Sound. We took a "Light Walk" around the school to learn about the different types of man made light. The students were amazed at how many different things use light! Computers, TVs, Exit signs, lamps, outlets, etc...
Social Studies-We learned all about different types of maps this week in Social Studies; climate, physical, population and regional maps. The students also learned about regions and that Michigan fits into two different regions- The Great Lakes Region and The Midwest Region.
Spelling- Students received a new spelling list last week Tuesday and were given a practice test on Friday. If students received 100% on their practice test, they do not need to practice their words the second week (as I take their practice test grade as a final grade). If your child did not get 100%, they need to continue to practice their words for another week. The words that they got wrong are the only ones they need to write in their agendas each night
Reading- We wrapped up reading "Because of Winn Dixie" last week and jumped into discussing how to use adjectives to describe a character.
Reminders:
