Yesterday we enjoyed Patriotic Day within our classroom! The students loved wearing red, white, and blue to show our pride and we even celebrated with a few patriotic treats! We are currently learning about the Core Democratic Values that we share as Americans and Patriotism was our first value. Learning about the history of the American flag and our Constitution was fun and interesting for us. We love to make Social Studies exciting and hands on!
What do you want in a teacher? That is the question students in our class were asked! What types of traits do they love and want in a great teacher? I strive to be the best teacher I can for my students so I want to know how I can best help them. This is a great learning tool for me! As we learn about each other and meet new friends; it is important to create a sense of team within our classroom. We worked together today on another team building challenge. This challenge was frustrating and hard, but fun and exciting at the same time! The students' materials included; 2 marshmallows, some spaghetti, tape, a paper bag, and some string. They had 10 minutes to construct the tallest structure they could using only their materials. What a whirlwind of activity within our classroom during those 10 minutes! The winning team's height was 38 cm and their picture is above. We had a great first day today! It sure was a hot one, but we survived! We learned quite a bit about the procedures within our classroom and had some fun with classroom activities.
Our favorite activity was called "Saving Fred". The students had to communicate and work well together in groups of 4 to figure out how to get a Fred the worm (a gummy worm) into his life preserver (a peach ring) without touching him with their fingers. We had quite a few laughs as all groups managed to complete the task successfully! Dear Parents,
Our classroom has many of the items that we need, but there are a number of items that would be wonderful to have donated. This is our 3rd grade wishlist! Items on this list help us with things such as; science experiments, classroom activities, cleaning up, preventing illness, rewards, or extra snacks for kids who forget. I appreciate each and every donation! Thank you for your support, Mrs. Haagsma Tissues Clorox wipes Stickers Gel pens (fun colors) Dry snacks (goldfish, crackers, etc...)
