Thank you for your continued support of your 3rd grader and our classroom! We had such a wonderful week last week and earned quite a few compliments from other teachers regarding our behavior. Awesome! We wrote new goals for ourselves in reading because we have been crushing our previous goals. We also began an exciting new read aloud! Please ask your child to summarize what we have read so far! Have a great week!

What did you do with your kinder buddy last week?
Can you name two natural resources in Michigan?

Curriculum Updates
Writing- We are almost ready to start our final drafts of our non-fiction animal books! I continue to be so impressed with the effort my students are putting into these! I am excited for our Writing Celebration!
Math- We wrapped up our unit on measurement last week and will jump into a new unit on Monday. This unit will cover 3 digit addition, subtraction and rounding to the nearest 10 or 100. We will begin with a pre-assessment which allows me to put students into groups according to their math needs. As we move through our units in Math, I continue to monitor each student's progress with quizzes, discussions and observations. If your child needs extra review or practice on any concept, I pull them in small groups based upon their needs during our Math Block time. This time is 30 minutes each day set aside specifically for Math intervention.
Science-Next week, we will explore sound. We will describe sound as a form of energy and learn about difference characteristics of sound.
Social Studies-We'll focus on the relationship between the location of natural resources and the location of industries, along with how these influence our state economy
Spelling- Students receive a new spelling list every other week and are given a practice test on Friday. If students received 100% on their practice test, they do not need to practice their words the second week (as I take their practice test grade as a final grade). If your child did not get 100%, they need to continue to practice their words for another week. The words that they got wrong are the only ones they need to write in their agendas each night
Reading- We'll learn about the text structure of nonfiction texts. We will explore descriptive, sequential, comparison, and cause and effect structures.
Reminders
Store Donations-If you are willing to send in donations for our store, we are grateful as 3rd grade teachers! We welcome donations of candy, cans of pop, and small trinkets (they can be gently used). Thank you!
