We had a very busy week in 3rd grade! With Halloween and a fun Writing Celebration at the beginning of the week and an early release day on Friday; the week flew by! As a part of our PES Better Together theme, we kicked off our annual PE Cares can drive. Third grade is collecting canned fruits and vegetables & toiletries. Our goal is to collect 125 cans as a class. The class that collects the most cans per student will win a bowling trip with Mr. Beimers!
Please continue to ask friends and family if they would like to send a postcard; we love getting mail each day! Our map is filling up! We would love to receive mail from around Michigan as well.

Questions to ask your child about 3rd Grade this week:
Can you sing the 3s multiplication song?
Who is in your Math Workshop group? What is your group name?
What types of adaptations does a Tiger have?
Can you tell me about one of your classmate's Personal Narratives? What did you enjoy about it?
Curriculum Updates
Writing- We wrapped up our unit on Personal Narratives last week with a fun writing celebration! The kids loved reading one another's stories and celebrating our growth! Our next unit is called Personal Essay/Opinion. Personal Essays are based upon strong opinions and supported with evidence.
Math-We will continue our work on multiplication and division. We will have a quiz this week to gauge student understanding. These quizzes help guide instruction and meet the needs of each student. After the quiz, we will have a day to reteach concepts that were confusing or need clarification.
Science- Our Animal Unit will wrap up this week with a test covering animal adaptations and vertebrate groups. Our next unit is called Force and Motion.
Social Studies-We will learn about our government and what it means to have a representative government. We'll also learn about the similarities and differences in our state and local government.
Reading- Our new unit in reading is called "Bringing Characters to Life". We will be reading a well loved book called Because of Winn Dixie with this unit. I am excited to begin this book with our class, I know they will enjoy it!
