I am so proud of the hard work that my 3rd graders put into doing their best on the M-Step! They really took their time to show what they know and I love that. Yet, after four long days of testing, we are ready to get back to our regular school schedule this week!
As we come into the end of the school year, please continue to encourage your child to read and practice their spelling words and flash cards every night. It is very important to stay consistent with homework even as we wrap up the school year in order to prepare for 4th grade. Thank you for your support with this!
Please look for information about the Park Elementary Summer Reading Program coming soon! Once a week this summer our school library will be open for book checkouts; along with free books and snacks! The above picture shows our class looking at some of the many books I ordered, which will be available for 3rd graders this summer if they attend the Summer Reading Program! Students will earn a free book EVERY WEEK they attend! Wow! Be sure to plan on joining us this summer.
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
- What is your favorite game in gym class?
- What did you think about the M-Step? Harder than you thought? Easier?
- How did you make Mrs. Haagsma proud last week?
- What are you excited about for this week?
Curriculum Updates
Writing- We are currently publishing our Opinion Essays. We will be wrapping these up in the next week and will transition into working on our Wax Museum posters and speeches during Writing time.
Math- We will begin our final math unit this week-2 step story problems! It is hard to believe we are entering the last month of school soon!
Science- We are wrapping up our unit in Recycling with our Opinion Essays in Writing.
Social Studies- The students are VERY excited about our new History unit in Social Studies! This unit covers Pioneers and the reasons why people originally settled in Michigan. We kicked off the unit with a lesson on how to play a vintage version of"Oregon Trail". This was a favorite game of mine in elementary school and is a fun way to learn about some of the struggles facing those who traveled to new places during the 1800's.
Reading-We are currently using our notes on the Early Life, Later Life, Accomplishments and Time Line of our historical figures to draft our non-fiction writing for our wax museum posters. I will continue to model this type of writing using the book Who Was Walt Disney?
