The students had an action packed week! We presented our businesses, had some future teachers (including Kate's Aunt!) come in to teach a fun biology lesson, watched one of our reading groups put on a play of Sleeping Beauty and played a few competitive games of Kahoot! We also began "March is Reading Month" activities-please check out the calendar sent home last week for daily activities.
Have a great week,
Mrs. Haagsma
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
- Can you tell me about the lesson your guest teachers taught?
- What is one thing you did last week using your email? (student survey on technology)
- How do you think you make Mrs. Haagsma proud last week?
- Can you tell me about the book you are reading for your Book Club? Who is the main character? What are some character traits that can be used to describe them?
- Can you describe perimeter to me? How do you find the perimeter of a shape? When would you need to find the perimeter of something? (fencing, distance, picture frame, etc...)
- Can you describe area to me? How do you find the area of a shape? When would you need to find the area of a shape or space? (carpet or tile, dirt needed for a garden, etc...)
Curriculum Updates
Writing- I am so impressed with the wonderful Realistic Fiction stories my class is creating! The use of dialogue, setting, and character development is wonderful!
Math- We moved into solving problems involving perimeter and area this week. The students worked in groups to solve story problems and earned points for their group in two different formats; a group game and during a round of Kahoot.
Social Studies-We will wrap up our unit on businesses this week; along with a quiz on Thursday. Your child should be able to describe the terms-scarcity, product, goods, services, business, loans and profit.
Reading- Book clubs kicked off last week and I love seeing the students in charge of their own learning! They meet with their group each day to plan their daily reading and writing assignments then read either together or on their own and finally wrap up with a group discussion or writing assignment. I am so excited with the great discussions I am overhearing each day!
