We have only a few more days until Spring Break! This week will be filled with fun activities and learning.
Thank you for attending your child's conference and partnering with me to best help your child. We had 100% attendance in our class from parents! Awesome!
Have a great week,
Mrs. Haagsma
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
- What is a Contraction? What is a Proper Noun?
- What is a strength of yours as a friend?
- Can you share something good that happened last week at school?
- What did you learn about the Pioneers this week? What is the Oregon Trail? Why did people head out West?
Curriculum Updates
Writing: We celebrated our Realistic Fiction Stories this week and they turned out wonderfully! Great ideas, details and growth! I am so proud of my 3rd graders! This week we will begin our next unit; Opinion.
Grammar topics were covered during Super Switch time by Mrs. Van for the first half of the school year and are now reviewed daily during our morning work.
Social Studies: We had a lot of fun this week learning all about the Pioneers and the Oregon Trail. We learned about life on the trail and even had the chance to play a vintage favorite..."Oregon Trail". Watching "Little House on the Prairie" gave us a deeper insight to life as a Pioneer as well.
Math: We will continue learning about fractions this week as we focus on fractions on a number line, creating equivalent fractions and fractions greater than one whole.
We review previous topics twice a week as a whole class and small groups are pulled during Computer/Intervention time when extra support is needed.
Reading Workshop: Our focus during Reading Workshop continues to cover reading non-fiction and fiction texts for understanding, main idea and details. Close reading helps readers dive deeper into their texts! We are also working on creating reading responses to our reading by citing the text.
MobyMax and Study Island: These are two great learning sites that Park students have access to (Thank you Parents' Club!) We spend time each week extending and practicing our skills in the subjects of Math and Reading on these sites. Computer skills are an essential part of our learning!
Epic! is another site that your child may want to explore. This is a wonderful site full of over 20,000 books. Your child can get on for free Monday-Friday during school hours. This is perfect for a Snow Day or during our breaks.
