I hope that you had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend! We are heading into our last couple of weeks before Spring Break and the days are flying by!
The students have been working hard as the expectations have continually been raised at this point of the school year. Thank you for your continually support in daily assignments such as reading, flashcards and agendas. This support helps your child gain confidence as they are supported in their independent work!
Have a great week,
Mrs. Haagsma
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
- What does the bottom number (denominator) in a fraction mean? What does the top number (numerator) mean?
- How do you feel about learning cursive in your morning work?
- Can you share something good that happened last week at school?
- What is one area in behavior that you can work on in 3rd grade?
Curriculum Updates
Writing: We will be illustrating our Realistic Fiction stories this week and will be celebrating with our class on Wednesday! Next we will move into a Science and Writing cross curriculum unit.
Grammar topics were covered during Super Switch time by Mrs. Van for the first half of the school year and are now reviewed daily during our morning work.
Social Studies: We are moving into learning about how Pioneers helped to further develop Michigan. We will enjoy a Pioneer day on Friday in our classroom!
Math: We are currently in the middle of a unit on Fractions in math. This was kicked off with a fun lesson using Brownies to represent how fractions are pieces of a whole.
We review previous topics twice a week as a whole class and small groups are pulled during Computer/Intervention time when extra support is needed.
Reading Workshop: Our focus during Reading Workshop covers reading both non-fiction and fiction texts for understanding, main idea and details. Close reading helps readers dive deeper into their texts!
MobyMax and Study Island: These are two great learning sites that Park students have access to (Thank you Parents' Club!) We spend time each week extending and practicing our skills in the subjects of Math and Reading on these sites. Computer skills are an essential part of our learning!
Epic! is another site that your child may want to explore. This is a wonderful site full of over 20,000 books. Your child can get on for free Monday-Friday during school hours. This is perfect for a Snow Day or during our breaks.
