I am looking forward to sharing your child's progress with you this week during conferences! I love how excited my whole class is about learning, growing and doing their best!
This week flew by! We enjoyed looking back at our progress while working on our data folders, watched two special plays, played a few games of Kahoot and a had great meeting with our kinder buddies to wrap up our week!
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
- Can you tell me what a primary source is? Secondary source?
- What are some suggestions that Mrs. Haagsma gave you for your Realistic Fiction story? How is she able to view your writing to help you?
- How do you think you make Mrs. Haagsma proud last week? What is a goal she had for you on your report card?
- Can you tell me about the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? What is your favorite part? Why? Who is your favorite character? Least favorite?
- What was your favorite thing that happened at school this week?
- What is your favorite Kahoot quiz you have taken so far?
Curriculum Updates
Writing- We are having a wonderful time typing and fixing up our Realistic Fiction stories! I am able to go right into each student's Google Doc and make suggestions using an editing tool. The students are then able to read my suggestions and either accept, decline or fix each suggestion. This is a tool often used in middle and high school, but it is going well with my 3rd graders too!
Math- Our Unit 6 test over area, perimeter, and quadrilaterals was a very tricky one. We will use our math intervention time to go review these concepts. I want to make sure that our students master these concepts and are given adequate time to process these concepts. Please let me know if you have any questions about this unit.
During Math Workshop, we will begin our new unit on fractions. We will explore fractional parts, model fractions, locate fractions on a number line, and compare fractions using fraction bars and number lines.
Social Studies- Our next unit covers Michigan History, primary sources and secondary sources and more specifically- Native American within Michigan. We look forward to diving more into our family history as well!
Reading- Students will wrap up their book clubs, finishing their writing packets. We will design a new cover for the book, and write a book recommendation, letter to the author, and summary. I'm excited for students to continue sharing their reading with a small group!
