We had a number of exciting things that happened last week in 3rd grade! We celebrated our Family Book Club with a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Party, which was a blast! Please look for a note home soon regarding our next Family Book Club book. We also have a high school student from Hudsonville High School coming a few times a week to learn about becoming a teacher. Her name is Miss Kiah and she is a former student of mine. She will be observing our classroom and helping small groups of students.
We wrapped up a fun week with enjoying some Flashlight reading in our classroom and at a school wide assembly. Lots of fun!
Have a great week,
Mrs. Haagsma

Curriculum Updates
Writing: We will be wrapping up our drafts of our Realistic Fiction stories this week. We will then move into editing and revising them.
Grammar topics were covered during Super Switch time by Mrs. Van for the first half of the school year and are now reviewed daily during our morning work.
Social Studies: We are currently performing our skits and short stories to show our knowledge of how Native Americans and the fur traders helped to develop Michigan.
Math: We wrapped up our perimeter and area unit last week and will move into Fractions next! This is an exciting and fun unit for students!
We review previous topics twice a week as a whole class and small groups are pulled during Computer/Intervention time when extra support is needed.
Reading Workshop: Our focus during Reading Workshop covers reading both non-fiction and fiction texts for understanding, main idea and details. Close reading helps readers dive deeper into their texts!
MobyMax and Study Island: These are two great learning sites that Park students have access to (Thank you Parents' Club!) We spend time each week extending and practicing our skills in the subjects of Math and Reading on these sites. Computer skills are an essential part of our learning!
Epic! is another site that your child may want to explore. This is a wonderful site full of over 20,000 books. Your child can get on for free Monday-Friday during school hours. This is perfect for a Snow Day or during our breaks.
