Curriculum Updates
Writing- We celebrated our Personal Essay/Opinion pieces in writing and they turned out wonderful! I am so impressed with how well the students did; especially with working on their goals from the last report card. Awesome! We kicked off our Information unit with a "search and find" text feature activity and will continue on this week with learning about text features in Information/Non-fiction book.
Math- Our new unit moved into measuring and estimating with mass and weight. The students learned about kilograms, grams, tons, pounds, ounces, as well as liquid volume.
Science- We will wrap up our Force and Motion Unit next week with Simple Machines.
Social Studies-We enjoyed learning about the Mackinac Bridge this week during our 3rd grade "Big Group" time.
Spelling-Please have your child practice their words and write them in their agendas once a day. If your child received 100% on their practice test, they will not need to practice words this week. Our test will be this Friday. Students will not receive new spelling words until Jan. due to our short week next week and Christmas break.
Reading- Learning to put ourselves in a "character's shoes" to predict how they will react to events in a story was our goal this week.
Reminders:
Christmas Party and Bowling Party-This year, we will be having our 3rd grade Christmas party on Wednesday, December 21 from 2:45-3:45. This party will be a bit more relaxed with treats and a game or two. **Mr. Beimers will schedule our Bowling Trip to Hudsonville Lanes from our can drive win and parents will be invited to that as well. As of 12/11 I do not have any further information about the date/time; I will let you know once the date is finalized!
Holiday Hope- Even with our Snow day, I still plan to shop on Monday, Dec. 12 at 6:30pm. If you planned to shop, you can meet the 3rd grade teachers at the Target in Grandville. I will give you a baggie with the child's age, size, and interests on it; along with the amount you indicated you would be donating. You can then shop for you item(s) and check out (please ask for a gift reciept). I will be waiting by the check out and will take back your baggie, along with the gift. I will organize these items back at school to get ready for our gift wrapping party on Tuesday. I look forward to this fun event! Thank you so much for helping to make Christmas special for a Hudsonville family!
Students can bring wrapping paper, ribbons, tags and boxes on Tuesday, Dec. 13 with them to school for our wrapping party. Parents are invited to come and help wrap with us from 2:45-3:45. Please let me know if you are willing to come and help.
