We had a busy week with the Halloween Party and Parade! Thank you for all the donations and help; I can't pull off the fun parties without you!

Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
- Can you tell me about the Unlock the Haunted House game?
- What Writing unit are you working on currently? What is an example of a big idea and evidence?
- Can you tell me how to find the area of a rectangle or square? (length times width)

Curriculum Updates
Writing: We jumped into a new Writing Unit this week called Opinion (or Personal Essay). This type of writing includes creating a thesis statement around a big idea and supporting it with evidence. These are traditional, five paragraph essays-
- Introduction
- First Body Paragraph
- Second Body Paragraph
- Third Body Paragraph
- Conclusion
Social Studies: We were introduced to a new source of information to learn about Social Studies this week-Michigan Weekly Newspapers! The students enjoyed reading with a partner to learn about the events, history and government of Michigan.
Math: We continued to work on learning the 6s,7s,and 8s multiplication songs last week, as well as how to solve multiplication and division problems involving area.
Reading Workshop: The characters within our read-aloud-Because of Winn-Dixie have been the focus of our Reading lessons. How can characters develop and change as they encounter new situations?
Please encourage your child to remember their book every day! This is so important to help build fluency, comprehension and confidence. By reading the same book at school and home, students can greatly increase their reading skills!
