Thank you for your support with Parent/Teacher Conferences! We had 100% attendance! I am glad that I was able to meet with each of you to discuss successes and goals that I have for your child. Please continue to contact me with questions and concerns about 3rd grade!
Have a wonderful week!
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
- What is a need vs. a want? Can you explain the game you played on Friday with picking needs and wants? How did you decide what items you would take with you to the new planet?
- How do you find the Area of a shape? What are some key words you may find in an area word problem?
- Who is Wallis Wallace? What is the mystery involving him?
Curriculum Updates
Writing: Students picked a topic that they feel strongly about and created a thesis involving that opinion. They also began drafting their Persuasive Essay introductions and first body paragraphs. I am eager to read these strong essays as we work together on them over the course of the next few weeks.
Math: Solving 2 step word problems, multiplying by 6,7,and 8, and area will continue to be our focus for the upcoming week.
***Please encourage your child to practice memorizing their flashcards. It is essential that they have their facts memorized each week for their flashcard test on Fridays. They will have one minute to answer 20 questions so they must be fluent with their facts. Each time they past a set of facts; they will add another set. For example: the first test will cover just x5 facts, but the next test will cover Division 5s, then x5 and x 2 facts, etc...Please let me know if you have questions about our flashcards!
Social Studies: Last week, we continued learning about Economics; with a focus on needs and wants. This week, we will dive into learning about consumers and producers, as well as how businesses run.
Reading Workshop: Our mystery Shared Reading book is almost finished...we left Friday on a cliffhanger! We will finish that book this week and will jump into another mystery as a class. Our goals while reading mysteries are to slow down while reading, read for meaning and clues, as well as making predictions about our books.
*Please encourage your child to read one book at school and at home. It is important that they take the same book back and forth from school to home each day. We want to work on building comprehension by reading a book all the way through before starting another one!
