We had a busy week last week with our Art Prize Field Trip and the Football Game on Friday! I am looking forward to another fun week with my 3rd graders!
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
- What was your favorite thing about Art Prize?
- How can you solve 36 divided by 9 using the 9s trick?
- What is your favorite part of the school day?
Curriculum Updates

Math: We are moving into practicing all of the strategies we have learned with how to solve multiplication and division problems. The student are doing wonderful! Practicing word problems is our goal for this week!
***Please encourage your child to practice memorizing their flashcards. It is essential that they have their facts memorized each week for their flashcard test on Fridays. They will have one minute to answer 20 questions so they must be fluent with their facts. Each time they past a set of facts; they will add another set. For example: the first test will cover just x5 facts, but the next test will cover Division 5s, then x5 and x 2 facts, etc...Please let me know if you have questions about our flashcards!
Reading Workshop: Our Reading Workshop's focus continues to be working on comprehension (understanding the text). Asking questions regarding the setting and characters help us to think deeply about what we are reading. Our current read-aloud is called Riding Freedom and is a great adventure story of an orphan in the West during the mid-1800s.
*Please encourage your child to read one book at school and at home. It is important that they take the same book back and forth from school to home each day. We want to work on building comprehension by reading a book all the way through before starting another one!
