We had an AMAZING day on Friday with Writing and Reading Celebrations! I hope your child shared a little about these with you! I am so proud of each student and their hard work over the last few months. Please enjoy the pictures, highlighting these events!
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
- What is your next unit in Reading? Do you remember the name of your upcoming read aloud?
- How can you be a great classmate/partner this week?
- What was your favorite part of the Writing and Reading Celebrations?
Curriculum Updates
Writing: We finished publishing our Personal Narratives last week and had a chance to share them with others in our class. The students loved creating their own books! Our next unit will be Persuasive Essays.
Math: We wrapped up our first unit in Math last week! The students were tested over the 0, 1,2,3,5,9 and 10 multiplication and division facts as well as word problems. We will finish the test on Monday and these will come home during the upcoming week. Our next unit will dive more in depth into multiplication and division.
We will take our Mad Minute test on Monday this week and again on Friday. I'm sorry for the tardiness; but Friday was such a fun day all around that we did not have time to get to them!
***Please encourage your child to practice memorizing their flashcards. It is essential that they have their facts memorized each week for their flashcard test on Fridays. They will have one minute to answer 20 questions so they must be fluent with their facts. Each time they past a set of facts; they will add another set. For example: the first test will cover just x5 facts, but the next test will cover Division 5s, then x5 and x 2 facts, etc...Please let me know if you have questions about our flashcards!
Reading Workshop: Our first unit in Reading Workshop, called Launching the Reading Workshop, was celebrated last week! We had a wonderful time reading clues to follow a scavenger hunt around the school in search of our next unit and read aloud! Our celebration was the highlight of the day!
*Please encourage your child to read one book at school and at home. It is important that they take the same book back and forth from school to home each day. We want to work on building comprehension by reading a book all the way through before starting another one!

Park Families,
In our efforts to best partner with the Laurels Nursing Home, we are going to try a new start time for our annual Halloween Parade. We will leave Park at 9:20am and parade down VanBuren, through the Laurels, and back to school by coming up Curtis. Please have your child dressed (or mostly dressed) for the parade when he/she arrives at school that morning. (The Director of the ECC is aware of our morning parade plans and understands Park students may arrive for before school childcare in costume.) Please only send your child to school in school appropriate costumes (specifically, no weapons or anything that might scare little ones). The parade will be canceled if the weather does not cooperate. Classroom parties will still be in the afternoon. More information to come! Students will take off costumes after the parade and will keep them off for the remainder of the school day.
