Thank you for your support of your child's progress! I am so glad I was able to share your child's highlights and goals with you during Parent-Teacher Conferences. What a wonderful year we are having in 3rd grade! I could not be more proud of the growth of my kids! Only 4 more days until Spring Break!
Questions to ask your child about 3rd grade this week
- What number on a fraction tells you how many pieces the shape or line is broken up into? (denominator or bottom number)
- What are The Three Fires? (The three main Native American tribes in Michigan-extra treat if they can name all three!)
- Can you summarize your Book Club book? Who is your main character? How are they like you? Different than you?
- What are you excited about for this week?
- What is a quadrilateral? Parallelogram? Can you describe how to find the perimeter and area of a shape?
Curriculum Updates
Writing- We wrapped up typing, editing and revising our Realistic Fiction stories and we are currently illustrating them to create picture books. I am so excited to see the final books! The students are doing a wonderful job!
Math- We continued to review area, perimeter, and quadrilaterals during our math intervention time last week. I want to make sure that my students master these concepts and are given adequate time to process these concepts. Please let me know if you have any questions about this unit.
During Math Workshop, we begin our new unit on fractions. The students were introduced to fractions with a fun lesson using Brownies. We also began to explore fractional parts, model fractions and learn how to locate fractions on a number line.
Social Studies- Our next unit covers Michigan History, primary sources and secondary sources and more specifically- Native American within Michigan. We look forward to diving more into our family history as well!
Reading- Students are wrapping up their Book Clubs this week. I love listening in on their conversations and ideas regarding their books!
