We will soon begin our study of Michigan geography in Social Studies. In order for us to learn about our great state; it is also important to learn about the other states in our wonderful nation. To add a little fun, we would like to receive postcards from all the states. This is where you come in! Please contact (call, email, Facebook.etc.) any friends or family that live in other states and request a postcard. Below is an example request:
"Hello! My child's 3rd grade class is studying the 50 states of our country. They would love to receive a postcard from each state. If you are able, please send a postcard to their class. Including a fact about your state on the postcard would make it extra special. Please be sure to include your name and the child who you are sending the postcard to. Please mail the postcards to Park Elementary, Attn: Mrs. Haagsma, 5525 Park Ave. Hudsonville, MI 49426. Thank you!”
Please ask the sender to be sure to sign their name (and how they are connected to us-example-Tara’s Aunt) and write us a little bit about their state.
I will update you with which states have come in and which we are still missing. Thank you so much for helping with this fun project!
I did this last year with my class and by the end of the school year we had over 150 postcards from 48 different states! The students also learned the names of our states and capitals with the help of our postcards and a catchy song we will be learning! My class loved this project and it was so exciting to receive mail. We even received a postcard from an American in Taiwan who read about our challenge from my classroom blog! We also had a few people send books about their states, souvenirs, and letters! (we would love any of these items as well)
We are looking forward to receiving mail from around our nation. We will have a map to color in the states we have received a postcard from. Come stop by in a few weeks and check it out! This is an ongoing project and we will collect postcards until about March. I hope to share our positive results soon!
Thank you for your support!
